Why BTS and Valentine's Day go so well together

If the person you love is ARMY, half the work of a Valentine's gift is already done. The fandom has its own vocabulary of affection, and the most famous word in it is Borahae. V coined it at a fan meeting on 13 November 2016, joining bora, the Korean word for purple, and saranghae, I love you. Purple is the last colour of the rainbow, so the idea is a love that lasts a long time. For a day that is all about saying I love you, it is hard to find a better starting point.

That means you do not need anything big or expensive. A gift that says Borahae, quietly and in the right colour, will mean more to an ARMY than a generic bouquet with a heart-shaped card.

For a partner: three kinds of romantic BTS gifts

Start from how your partner experiences BTS. Some love the music above all, some love one member, and some love the fandom itself, the friends and the memories. Each points to a different gift.

• The love-song gift: pick a song about love from their bias and build around it. Write a line from it inside a card, make a playlist of BTS love songs in the order you would like them to hear, or choose a piece of clothing named after the song.
• The purple gift: everything in one shade of lilac or violet, from the wrapping paper to the flowers. Lavender, violet stocks or purple tulips are easy to find in February, and a single purple ribbon says Borahae without a word.
• The memory gift: if you went to a concert together, or watched one on screen, frame the ticket or a photo from that night, or recreate the snacks you had. For many couples, the Arirang year of 2026 already holds a few of those memories.

For your ARMY friends: a Galentine's with the members

Valentine's Day is not only for couples. Plenty of ARMY celebrate it with the friends they met through the fandom, and a small gift for each of them is a lovely way to say thank you for the streams, the voice notes and the concert queues.

Keep it light and personal. A handwritten note with each friend's bias, a set of seven heart-shaped cookies decorated in purple for an OT7 evening, or a BTS movie and karaoke night where everyone brings a dish. If you want to give something that lasts, a small embroidered piece tied to their bias works better than another generic keychain, because it shows you remember who they love.

A Korean twist: Valentine's Day and White Day

If you are curious about how Valentine's is celebrated in South Korea, the tradition is a little different. On 14 February it is common for women to give chocolate, and a month later, on 14 March, White Day is when the gift is returned, often with sweets or something small.

You can borrow the idea: give a small token on 14 February and save a second surprise for 14 March 2027. It stretches the celebration over a month, and a fan of Korean culture will notice the reference straight away.
