BTS embroidered shirt: choosing the right cut, fabric and design
5 min read
A BTS embroidered shirt can be an oversized or fitted t-shirt, a crop top or a proper button-style shirt, and the cut matters as much as the design. On light cotton, good embroidery is dense but not stiff, sits flat without puckering and has a soft backing inside. Pick a design you will still love in a year, check the measurements in centimetres and layer it so it works beyond summer.
Shirt can mean four different things
When fans search for a BTS shirt, they usually mean a t-shirt, but the word covers more than that. Before you compare designs, decide which shape you actually want, because each one is worn in a very different way.
If you are unsure, think about the top you reach for most often right now. That is almost always the right starting point.
- Oversized t-shirt: roomy, relaxed and the easiest to layer under jackets and cardigans.
- Fitted t-shirt: follows the body, looks neat with high-waisted jeans, skirts and tailored trousers.
- Crop top or tank: shorter or sleeveless, great for concerts, summer and layering over a long-sleeve top.
- Button-style shirt: a real shirt rather than a tee, which you can wear closed, open over a top or tied at the waist.
Embroidery on a tee: what good work looks like
Embroidering a sweatshirt is relatively forgiving, because the fabric is thick. A t-shirt is harder: the cotton is lighter and stretchier, so poor embroidery shows straight away. That makes it a good test of the maker.
Zoom in on the product photos. The stitches should be dense enough that the fabric does not show through the colour, with clean edges on letters and small details. Around the design, the cotton should lie flat, not ripple or pull. Inside, a good embroidered tee usually has a soft backing behind the design that keeps it stable without scratching your skin.
Compared with a print, embroidery does not crack or fade in the wash and has a texture you can feel. The trade-off is a slightly heavier area where the design sits, which is why simpler, well-placed designs often look best on lighter fabrics.
Picking a design that lasts beyond one era
A shirt is often the first BTS piece people buy, and the one they wear most. So it is worth choosing something you will still want to wear when the next comeback arrives.
Three kinds of design tend to age well. The first is the group itself: all seven members together, which is what OT7 means. The second is a song or lyric that means something personal to you. The third is a reference to a moment you lived as a fan, like the Arirang year: the album released on March 20, 2026 and the world tour that began on April 9 in Goyang. A keepsake from a year like that only becomes more precious with time.
How to wear it all year
A good embroidered shirt should not live in a drawer from October to May. With a few layers, it works in every season.
- Autumn: an oversized tee under an open flannel shirt or a denim jacket, with straight jeans and trainers.
- Winter: a fitted tee under a chunky cardigan or a blazer, so the design peeks out at the neckline.
- Spring: a button-style shirt worn open over a plain white tank, with wide trousers.
- Summer and concerts: a crop top with high-waisted jeans or cargo trousers and a crossbody bag.
Getting the size right
Size labels mean very little across different cuts, so measure instead. Lay a top you already like flat, then measure it from armpit to armpit and from shoulder to hem, and compare those numbers with the measurements on the product page.
For oversized cuts, stay with your usual size for a relaxed drape or go one size up for a long, loose look. For fitted cuts and stretch fabrics, stay true to your measurements. If it is a gift, an oversized tee is far more forgiving than a fitted one.
As for care, the usual good practice for embroidery applies: wash inside out on a gentle, cool cycle, skip the tumble dryer and never iron directly over the stitches.

FAQ
Is embroidery better than a print on a BTS shirt?
Embroidery does not crack or fade in the wash and has a raised texture. A print is lighter and can cover a larger area. For a piece you will wear for years, embroidery usually lasts longer.
Which cut is best for a BTS embroidered shirt?
An oversized t-shirt is the most versatile and the easiest to gift. A fitted tee looks neater with high-waisted pieces, and a crop top is ideal for concerts and summer.
How should I wash an embroidered t-shirt?
In general, inside out on a gentle, cool cycle, without the tumble dryer, and never ironing directly over the embroidery.
Are Mima&Lulù⁷ shirts licensed BTS merch?
No. They are fanmade pieces inspired by BTS and embroidered in Italy, not affiliated with BTS, HYBE or BigHit Music.
