The seven birthdays in calendar order

If you want one list to save on your phone, this is it. The year opens with two birthdays in late winter, goes quiet until September, and then ends with a run of three in the last three months, which is why autumn feels like one long party for ARMY.

From oldest to youngest

Sorting by year of birth gives a different picture. Jin is the eldest, born in 1992, and Jung Kook is the youngest, born in 1997, which is why fans call him the golden maknae, maknae being the Korean word for the youngest of a group.

Fans also split the seven into two halves. The hyung line, hyung meaning older brother, is Jin, Suga, j-hope and RM. The maknae line is Jimin, V and Jung Kook. Two pairs share a birth year: j-hope and RM were both born in 1994, and Jimin and V both in 1995, only eleven weeks apart.

When the celebration starts where you live

ARMY usually starts celebrating at midnight Korean time, because that is when fans in Korea post their first messages and birthday hashtags begin to trend. South Korea does not change its clocks, so the start time where you live depends on the season.

In the UK, midnight in Seoul falls at 3 pm the day before in winter and 4 pm in summer. On the US East Coast it falls at 10 am the day before in winter and 11 am in summer. So for Jin, fans in London start on the afternoon of Thursday, December 3, and fans in New York that same morning. Because the party then runs for the whole Korean day, you get roughly a full day to join in, whatever your time zone.

• June 13: the debut anniversary, celebrated with FESTA. BTS debuted in 2013, and in 2026 the 13th anniversary brought two concerts in Busan on June 12 and 13 and the single Come Over.
• November 13: the day in 2016 when V first said Borahae, I purple you, at a fan meeting. Bora means purple and saranghae means I love you, and purple, the last colour of the rainbow, stands for a love that lasts.
• March 20: the release date of Arirang, the fifth studio album, out in 2026 with the single SWIM.

Making the most of each birthday

Every birthday follows familiar fan traditions: hashtags and fanart from midnight in Korea, cupsleeve events in cafes, birthday ads funded by fanbases, donations in the member's name and group streaming of his solo work. A simple personal ritual works just as well, such as a playlist that starts at the Korean midnight, a letter you reread the next year, or a small gathering with friends who share the same bias.
