V or Taehyung: what fans are looking for

Kim Taehyung performs as V, and fans use both names, often switching depending on the mood. When ARMY search for Taehyung merch rather than V merch, they are usually looking for something a little more personal: less stage persona, more the person behind it.

That is a useful hint when you choose. A big printed face says I am a fan. A small, precise reference to his music, his taste or his initials says I know him, and that is what makes a piece feel special years later.

References that are unmistakably his

If you want a piece only ARMY will decode, these are the references most fans recognise:

• Winter Bear, the soft song he released in 2019, with its gentle, wintry mood.
• Christmas Tree, his soundtrack from December 2021, a favourite every holiday season.
• Layover, his first solo album from 2023, with Slow Dancing and Love Me Again.
• Winter Ahead, his duet with Park Hyo-shin released at the end of 2024.
• Borahae, the word he coined at a fan meeting on November 13, 2016, from bora, purple, and saranghae, I love you.
• His initials KTH, or THV, the letters many fans know from his Instagram handle.

Winter is his season

Look at that list again and you will notice how much of his best-loved solo music lives in the cold months. Add his birthday, December 30, the last BTS birthday of the year, and it is easy to see why so many Taehyung fans save their purchases for November and December.

That makes warm pieces the most useful ones. An oversized sweatshirt gets worn several times a week from October to March, and a design inspired by one of his winter songs feels right every time you put it on. A good bag works all year, but in winter it is the thing you carry to every Christmas market, train and lecture.

KTH or THV: choosing between initials

Initials are the most discreet way to wear your bias, and with Taehyung you have two options. KTH, for Kim Taehyung, is the classic monogram: tidy, elegant and easy to wear anywhere. THV is more of an insider reference, because it echoes the handle he uses online, and other ARMY tend to smile when they spot it.

Neither is better. If the piece is a gift and you are unsure, KTH is the clearer choice; if the person follows every post of his, THV adds a little wink.

Licensed or fanmade, and what to check

Licensed products come out through BTS's label and its partners. Fanmade pieces are designed by fans and usually play with references like the ones above. Both have their place, but a fanmade shop should always say clearly that it is not affiliated with BTS or the label.

Whatever you buy, look for three things: real photos of the finished piece, not only mockups; the composition and the measurements in centimetres; and an honest production time. With embroidery, zoom in on the stitches: they should be dense and even, with clean lettering and no puckered fabric around the design.
